Cardboard Cup: Friend or Foe

Society moves quickly in our modern era and we often do not take time to smell the flowers or the coffee; hence, the invention of the cardboard cup: when we don’t have time for the full coffee experience.

No matter how good the coffee is, a level of quality is lost when you take your coffee on the run. Most people do not think about it. Actually, most people are taking their coffee in cardboard to go. You lose a bit of taste and of course the overall café experience, which cannot be understated.

However, there are times when the moment calls for such measures. The pleasure of a hot cup of Joe on the road is—as the Mastercard commercial says—priceless. I love sipping on coffee as I enjoy the local vistas, whether they be mountains, prairies or shining sea.

Another moment to savor in cardboard is late night driving: when you have to be there, and again, our friend Joe is there to keep you satiated and awake. Accompany the experience with a companion; turn up the music and sip away with moonlight brightening your path.

Sometimes I like walking on the beach at dusk enjoying the setting sun and the cool breeze. These moments are always accentuated with coffee.

I guess what I’m saying is that there should be a purpose to go cardboard as opposed to the enjoyable porcelain cup. If there is no reason for the take-away experience then try to slow it down and savor every sip, either at the café or breakfast table. The coffee experience is better when you can focus. Better yet, bask.
